In addition to her artistic practice, Xin has facilitated art and design workshops that integrate contemplative methods with collective making, and she currently serves as Art Director of AT Studio in Australia.
Artist Statement
Xin Yue is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher with a background in architecture and design. Her practice-based research explored liquid identity through the lens of Buddhist philosophy, investigating the influence and transformative potential of Buddhist thought within contemporary art.
Drawing on Chinese mythology and philosophical frameworks rooted in Buddhism and Daoism—particularly the concepts of impermanence (无常), formlessness (无相), and Dao Fa Zi Ran (道法自然)—her work emphasises the intrinsic resonance between self, nature, and cosmos. Through these lenses, she examines the fluid dynamics of identity and spiritual awakening within the shifting conditions of contemporary life.
Xin employs abstraction and fragmentation as core formal strategies, working with ephemeral materials such as wax, glass, stone, and metal, and incorporating elemental forces including wind, water, sound, and light. Her practice foregrounds the spiritual agency and perceptual sensitivity of materials, treating them as co-actors in immersive environments where boundaries between reality and illusion, stillness and transformation, become porous.
Rejecting fixed formal conventions, she embraces irregularity and instability as aesthetic methodologies—recording natural processes, simulating states of flux, and giving presence to describe as formless form. Her work meditates on the beauty of imperfection, the temporality of being, and the quiet thresholds through which existence is sensed, scattered, and slowly reassembled.
Through the convergence of mythology, material sensitivity, and embodied awareness, her practice invites observation and reflection on inner nature, spiritual belonging, and presence—not as permanence, but as resilience within rupture.
